The 1972-1973 wrestling team finished the conference season posting a 6-4 record in spite of injury problems.  The team brought home two trophies from nonconference tournament. 

At the Highland Park tournament, they came in a close second losing to St. Paul Central in the championship match 24-22.  They also came in second at the Rushford Invitational Tournament.

The conference season opened against the Lakers.  Southwest defeated the Tigers 27-14. Two victories followed the opening loss as the Tigers beat up on the Northside schools..  South defeated North 36-24 and then two weeks later defeated Henry 39-12.

Central and South wrestled a close match, with the Pioneers coming out on to, 31-25.  The next match, against West on Jan. 16, 1973, saw the Tigers set a record for most points and largest margin of victory.  South defeated West by a 58-3 score.  The old record was set on Feb. 13, 1957 against Edison, when the Tigers won 53-3.

Edison defeated the Tigers 36-9, which was followed by two more victories.  South defeated Vocational 26-19 and Roosevelt 31-21.  Washburn and South wrestled to another close match in which the Millers won 27-24.  The last conference win was against Marshall-University, 46-10.

South entered the District 17 tournament and ended in 5th place.  Ron Anderson finished first in his weight class and entered the Region tournament.  He did not place in the Region meet.

Seniors Jim Harding, Bob Swanson and Rod Brauman served as captains. 

For the 11th year, Robert Lee was the head coach. Wayne Kopesky assisted Mr. Lee.
