South had another “average” wrestling team with only 1/3 of its members consistently winning.  To be classified as a “good” team, you need to be able to count on at least six wrestlers recording victories.  This year, South was faced with rebuilding in January when three All-City and regional qualifiers graduated.

South started its season with a win over West, 34-18.  The season continued with losses to Southwest, 37-11, and Washburn, 27-19.  South ended December with a victory over Central, 34-11.

January started with a victory over Henry, 21-17, and a loss to Roosevelt, 24-19.  However, South was upset by Marshall-University, 29-16.  The biggest loss, was when Rick Shelby broke his collarbone and was out for the season.

South then lost to Vocational, 31-11.  The match was so close that it ended in a 21-21 tie!!!  The Tigers ended the season with a 40-8 victory over North.

The Tigers finished in 7th place in the District 17 tournament.  The Tigers finished in a tie for 18th in the Region meet.

The Sophomores also wrestled in an end of the season conference meet and finished in 6th place.

For the seventh year, Robert Lee was the head coach.  This season, Mr. Berg assisted Mr. Lee.
