Tragedy struck the South Cross Country team when Mr. Olson, the head coach, died during the summer.  The athletic department had to find a new coach, quickly.  The runners worked out without supervision.  A new coach, Warren Kaari, was hired one week before the first meet.

South opened the season with a non-conference triangular meet against two Wisconsin schools, River Falls and Ellsworth. With only one real week of practice, no one was expecting much, but the Tigers rose to the ocassionan and won 22-42-62!

Only two dual meet sores were reported.  South lost to Roosevelt 15-46.

In what looked like a sure win against, Vocational, the Volts came out on top, despite Hal Wenngatz’s first place finish and Ed Johnson’s third place.  Other runners finished far back.

At the Conference Meet, the Tigers ended a season of ups and downs finishing seventh.  Hal Wenngatz finished 28th
