Each year brings about new challenges.  One was in the head coach.  For the third time in three years, the South runners had to deal with a new coach.  Mr. Richard Thompson took over the reins.  The second change was that the course distance was increased from 1.8 miles to two miles.  That does not sound like much, but after running a long distance, even a few extra feet is a lot.

The first meet of the season was against Roosevelt.  The Teddies ran an almost perfect race, winning 18-45.

South claimed their first win of the season against Washburn.  In a close race, the Tigers edged the Millers 25-30.

Marshall outdid the Tigers 23-34 in the third meet of the season. South then lost to North 23-38.

Two identical wins over Edison and Henry, both 29-30 and a 28-28 tied with Vocational ended the Tigers’ conference season

South ran a non-conference meet against River Falls, WI and won 22-36.

With a 4-3-1 conference record, South had high hopes of contending for the Conference Meet title.  Unfortunately, the Tigers finished in 10th place.  Only Edison was worse.  The bright sport of the meet was senior Dick Dupont.  He finished the two mile course in 10:21.00, good for ninth place in the city.  His time also set a school record for the two mile distance.
