The 1964-1965 South wrestling team had high hopes at the beginning of the year for a very successful season.  These hopes and dreams were banished, however, with a string of close defeats.  But, with many hard-working underclassmen on the team, South experienced a rebuilding period.  The future looks bright with these hard workers coming up, and the trainingprogram of future South wrestlers now attending Seward and Phillips taking shape.

Highlights of the year included starting the season with a 33-23 victory over Edison.  After that, there would only be one other victory, against Central, 40-12.  Between the two victories, the Tigers had a seven game losing streak, losing to North, 26-25, Roosevelt 34-16, Washburn 41-8, Henry 31-11, Vocational 39-13, West 28-16, and Marshall 27-15.  After the Central victory, South ended the season with a loss to Southwest 29-16.

South finished last in the District 17 meet.

Other highlights included Stan Capistrant’s second place finish in the conference meet and the naming of Capistrant as South’w Most Valuable Wrestler.  Dave Hurd was named Rookie of the Year.

Again, Robert Lee was the head coach.  He was assisted by Mr. Wisniewski.
