When the new season began, there were a lot of changes.  First, there was a new coach, Mr. Greening.  Second, the team was dominated by underclassmen.  Because of these two factors, the team was not expected to be successful in the won-loss column.  Success would be determined by improvement of the individual runners.

The results of only two dual meets were reported.  South lost twice to North, 19-44 and 23-38.  According to the 1964 South Yearbook, the team’s dual record was 1-9.

The Conference and Region meets were held at the same time.  South finished in ninth place.  Only Henry and Edison did worse.  Don DeLuney, South’s best runner, finished in 27th place with a time of 9:23.00.

DeLuney set a new school record at 9:18.00.  The distance was 1.8 miles.
