The 1956-1957 football season was disappointing for the Tigers.  South’s offense had a hard time scoring. 

The season opened against Central.  Central took advantage of many mistakes and won easily 21-0.

South faced North in the next game.  South showed improvement and handed the Polars a 27-7 defeat.

South hosted Vocational for the Tigers homecoming game.  Both defenses controlled the game with only once score allowed.  South sent the fans home happy with a 7-0 win.

South took on West.  This was the last game that the Tigers would be in.  Both teams struggled to score.  Because of this, the final was a 6-6 tie.

South finished the season being shut out in the last three games.  Edison won 20-0.  The worst loss of the season was to Roosevelt 34-0.  Henry finished the season winning 12-0.

South finished the season with a 2-4-1 record in eighth place.  No one was named to the All-Conference team.  Lester Barnard finished his 29th season as head coach.  Walt Butterwick, Jim Lushine and Al Pihlstrom were the assistant coaches.
