The Tigers experienced ups and downs during the 1955-1956 football season.  The team won four of seven games, but lost eight players due to injuries during the year.

South opened the season against West.  South took control of the game from the beginning and won 19-0.

Edison and the Tigers clashed in the second game.  This close game saw the Tommies win by a touchdown, 13-7.

South returned home and took on archrival Roosevelt for the Tigers’ Homecoming game.  Again, one touchdown separated the teams.  The Tigers’ fans went home happy with a 13-7 win.

Bad luck hit South in the next two games.  Henry blanked the Tigers 20-0.  That was followed by a 13-7 loss to Washburn.

South finished the season with two win, defeating Southwest 20-7 followed by Marshall 25-13.

South finished with a 4-3 record.  This placed them in fifth place.  Two players were named All-Conference.  Denny Johnson was named to the first team and Ron Keavy was named to the second team.

Head Coach Lester Barnard completed his 28th year as the Tigers’ leader.  Walt Butterwick, Arther Fredrickson, Jim Lushine and Al Pihlstrom were the assistant coaches.
