The 1937-1938 season started with an addition to the coaching staff.  Mr. Frank Cleve was assisted by Mr. Luther Mona.  Another addition was the return of Vocational to the basketball wars.

South opened the season against the same team it ended the season against, St. Paul Central.  South scored a school record for most points in beating St. Paul Central 61-38.

The team began conference play against Washburn.  This high scoring game saw both school top 30 points.  Unfortunately, Washburn had more, winning 37-34.

South returned to winning form against Marshall, South for the third straight game scored over 30 points, winning 33-22.  The next game, against West, saw the Tigers stretch their 30-point game streak grow to four with a 35-26 win.

The streak was broken against Roosevelt.  Roosevelt also snapped the two-game winning streak, downing the Tigers 25-20.

South returned to the positive side of the won-loss column defeating Edison in a close game, 30-28.  The game against North was even closer, the 28-27 score though saw North come out on top.

Central also defeated the Tigers, 40-35.  This game was followed by the first game against Vocational since the 1923-1924 season.  South won 25-19.
