The 1906-1907 South Girls Basketball team ended as the most successful in the history of the team according to the 1907 yearbook.  The season opened with a large number of girls out to practice.  After much training, the first squad was determined to be Nellie Loberg and Nona Quane at forwards, Signe Larsen at Center and Ruth Erickson and Ethel Ring at guards.

South won their first game, against the Agricultural School by an 8-7 score.  The next game brought the team back to earth, with a loss to the University of Minnesota by a 21-1 score.

On January 19, 1907, the team returned to the winning side of defeating Hudson, WI 39-2!  The team then beat Stanley Hall by a closer score of 14-10.

South overwhelmed St. Paul Central in two games.  South won the first game was 29-9 and the second game 50-6.  The next game was against the South Alumni.  The Alumni also fell by a score of 27-12.

The most important game of the season was played against Central on March 22.  The teams were evenly matches.  South came away with a hard-fought victory, 15-13, winning their first championship.

The team ended the season with a banquet honoring Grace Gaghagen, their coach.
